As much of a walking cartoon character he’s become over the years, these early Steven Seagal movies are probably only second to Bruce Lee in how much they influenced my love of the martial arts. And while there are far better scenes from the early days, this one is one of my favorites. Not because of the fighting, but because of how silly it is. He’s a humble, seemingly innocent, blind, gambling bad ass! I think this is the longest scene I’ve posted, but I couldn’t bring myself to shorten it because the build up is the best part. I think their original content has produced some of the best fight scenes in the last few years, and while Punisher is still my fav, this one is right up there. The movie as a whole was…okay, but this fight scene is awesome. She fights the guy with her hands bound, anyone whos’s attended our anti-abduction seminar should be familiar with that, and there are definitely some very recognizable Krav techniques in there. This is actually a completely underrated fight scene. Most people know how great of movie it is, but even I forgot how awesome the fight was. Two of the greatest actors around right now in a brutal, bloody fight with a tomahawk and a knife as their primary weapons. This is an often underrated film, with underrated fight scenes and action scenes, which is a shame. It’s got a killer cast, and if you like good, old fashioned action movies that revolve around the old “washed up hero showing the young folks that they can still kick ass” story, then this needs to be on your list.
